There are also huge holes in field competency: nothing's fast enough to catch bikes or jet packers. There's no way to reposition units using portals - I mean, for goodness sake, is it so much for an item to be taken to allow an HQ to bounce around with a portal glyph?

Tzeentch having to make psychic tests is absurd. The random strength weapons are crackers. That an incredible expensive unit is so completely points inefficient is obnoxious. Horrors are better in *combat* than shooting. Doesn't that make anyone think?

It's almost as if the writer didn't know the 40K rules and thought that fantasy worked the same way. Bloodcrushers are now not worth taking, flamers before excellent can openers are now only useful against light infantry and what nit plays that without a transport?

That and the biggest disappointment, the codex is full of recycled writing, artwork and the new models are ok, but nothing to scream about. New greater daemons in plastic would have really been quite lovely but no. pegboardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13181689355785748593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7460984850239841053.post-70768196149803853632013-04-18T09:28:58.132-07:002013-04-18T09:28:58.132-07:00Hey I've been playing tzeentch daemons since t...Hey I've been playing tzeentch daemons since the new book. And i can say I faired well with them. A lot of stuff has lost a lot of power.
I've been running LoC, one Herald, 3 squads of horrors. 2 squads of 10 and one 20. 3 squads of screamers of 4 each. And soul grinder and a DP. I try and get both the grimoire and the hope for the div power that gives a 4++. Turn one grimoire a squad of screamers for a 3++ or a 4+ cover in case it fails. Most times my opponent fires most of their stuff at them to keep their tanks alive. Which gives my dp and LoC time to get up and ready for a charge. The horrors I roll for what powers they get but I have almost always used the default. Sportsmanship is very subjective and is hard to be expressed on a scale, at least for me. After I've played a game I either feel I had a good one or a bad one - no shades of grey between. In a tournament (I haven't played in one with sportsmanship score yet) I'd be always inclined to give a good game check as to remain on good terms with the guy on the other side and would give bad only if I'm certain that I never want to see or speak to that person again. These two things defeat the purpose of a sportsmanship score passed by the players (for me atleast).Radechttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15181133931626222342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7460984850239841053.post-8450637266934980642013-03-05T11:59:19.066-08:002013-03-05T11:59:19.066-08:00Another question I would add (I've already mai...Another question I would add (I've already mailed it to GW):
Can the Icon of Chaos in a unit of daemons, that has just arrived via deepstrike or moved on the table from reserves, be used to prevent the scattering of another unit that has passed its reserve roll and is arriving via deepstrike on the same turn as the first unit (the one with the Icon of Chaos)? The large tournament circuit here in Sacramento uses Generalship, Composition and Paint to determine best overall. Paint tends to be fairly well distributes, but Comp allows everyone to score perfect. Doing this puts more weight on generalship and paint.

Anyway, I agree, no tolerance for crap. People shouldn't get bonus points for being good sports because, as you said, it is very subjective. Sportsmanship should only be put in place penalize/discourage those who are being unbearable or "ignorantly" cheating... otherwise the venue becomes attractive for "those guys" that know they can get away with it.

As for cheating - Weighted dice, moving extra inches here and there, etc... 1 warning, then kicked out without refund and banned from participating the next tournament, no exceptions. Obviously, every unit should not suddenly gain the movement capability of jump-infantry, but the few extra inches that scout gives would make up for not having transports and being melee-centric, and would also fit the lore.

They could have alternatively implemented a warp portal mechanic similar to the new portalglyph mechanic, but as a static HQ upgrade option... Place a marker within X inches from a herald or greater daemon, roll Xd6 to scatter, and d3 unengaged units can spawn (and assault) from the portal. These units could either be reserves (roll normal reserve roll) or from somewhere else on the board (roll d6, on a 1 mishap in some fashion). It could be designed that the portal stays up until destroyed, or you can generate a new one every turn. Daemons should be scary in more ways than one, but right now they are disadvantaged by relying heavily on melee, clothed only in a 5++, not having transports, and yet have to footslog down the board against a wall of shooting in most cases. Since almost all the shooting is made through psychic attacks is I feel they should be a bit easier to cast. in addition DTW could eventually build up through the course of the game. Scout I don't see as balanced since many units are fast and can re-roll charge distances - the extra 6 inches could prove a big deal.
My biggest issues with the codex are: N1- Random strengh/number of hits when shooting N2- The warp storm table N3- The random rewards.Radechttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15181133931626222342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7460984850239841053.post-9303035130800839682013-03-01T09:05:58.113-08:002013-03-01T09:05:58.113-08:00Aside from "warpfire" which can potentia...Aside from "warpfire" which can potentially provide your opponent with a 2+ FNP by the end of the game (if it stacks), I'm okay with most of the rest of the rules... I think. It is the unabashed profiteering and deceptive sales approach to the flamers and screamers that aggravates me. My daemon army is almost entirely metal. In fact I only purchased a squad of plastic flamers to use as pyrocasters for my metal flamers and I won 2 boxes of screamers after a team tournament, but I already own 27 metal screamers. My outrage is not because I feel tricked personally, but because of what it feels that GW has devolved to int his regard.Punchdubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05276658950482969466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7460984850239841053.post-33561956389071480282013-03-01T01:50:21.435-08:002013-03-01T01:50:21.435-08:00According to the leaks screamers got nerfed. Screamers and flamers were too good - I hope they've fixed them now. As for misleading people with rules they won't stick to, I don't feel sorry at all for all the people who bought the minis en masse (an army with 27 of each for example). When I don't try to compare them with what they used to do they still seem good to me - screamers can munch hordes of geqs with their slashing attack and then assaulting and still blow the occasional tank. Flamers are still not bad at burning meqs (warpfire) but got better at burning t3 stuff - a local guard player used to say that regular flamers are far better than the breath of chaos vs t3 sv3+ or 4+. So all in all they still remain useful and people who bought reasonable quantities of them will find that they weren't cheated after all (not to mention the troops in the codex became better than before with their reduced point costs).Radechttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15181133931626222342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7460984850239841053.post-88497457021602743382013-02-28T23:03:50.811-08:002013-02-28T23:03:50.811-08:00Oh my. I actually think this was a good thing for us in the community see transpire (although I think this only happened to flamers, screamers are the same as far as I know and now get to re-roll 1s for saves).

It gives us perspective on our game. Sure we all like to win (and be merciless in the process), but if we buy our models solely for the purpose of designing a killer list we will almost always get duped by this business strategy in the long or short term. Fact is we need to embrace our personal tastes and buy the models we like. If we buy what we like stylistically first and foremost rather than what we know is going to own our buddies on the table then we will almost always be safe from this cycle. This is the main reason I never purchased the flamers or screamers when they came out in plastic, I smelled a fish right away and instead got the more realistic slaanesh exalted chariot.
